Prescription Lenses &
Lens Technology

The frame gets noticed. The lenses do the work.

At Oculus Dexter, we take the same considered approach to your lenses as we do to your eye care and eyewear. We combine detailed measurements, experienced dispensing and premium lens technology to recommend lenses around how you actually see, work, drive and live.

We fit mostly Rodenstock lenses and use advanced DNEye® and digital centration technology where it adds value - but our starting point is always the same: the best lens for the patient, not the most expensive lens on the list.

We discuss personalised lenses as part of our → Eye Examinations.

The best lens for you

There is no single “best” spectacle lens for everyone. Your prescription is only part of the decision. The frame you choose, how it sits, the distances you use most, your work, screen time, driving, sport and sensitivity to light can all change what will work best.

We usually begin with the lens we believe will give you the best optical result for your needs, then explain the options and trade-offs clearly. If a simpler solution makes more sense for how you will use the glasses - or for your budget - we will tell you that too.

The aim is to make sure the lens you buy is the right one.

From measurements to finished glasses

We start with your prescription, symptoms and the way you use your glasses - from work and screens to driving, reading, sport and time outdoors. Your previous glasses can also tell us a lot about what has and has not worked for you - make sure you bring them along!

01 Understand how you use your vision

Once the frame is selected, we take the measurements needed for the lens design. Where appropriate this can include DNEye® biometric measurements and Rodenstock ImpressionIST® 3D centration measurements of the frame in its wearing position.

02 Measure your eyes and chosen frame

When your glasses are ready, we check the fit, adjust the frame and talk you through the lenses. If something does not feel right once you have worn them in the real world, come back - good dispensing includes the follow-up.

DNEye® Scanner - measuring more than the prescription

A conventional prescription tells us the focusing power your lenses need. The Rodenstock DNEye® Scanner can capture additional biometric information about the eye, including data that changes with pupil size and lighting conditions.

For suitable Rodenstock lenses, those measurements can be incorporated into the lens calculation rather than relying only on standardised eye models. This allows the lens design to be more closely tailored to the individual eye.

The lens also needs to work in the exact position you will wear it. Using Rodenstock digital centration technology, we measure how your chosen frame sits on your face, including the position of your pupils and the relationship between your eyes, frame and lenses.

These measurements are particularly important for highly individualised and progressive lens designs, where small changes in fitting position can influence how the lens performs.

B.I.G. EXACT™ lenses

Biometric lenses, made around the individual eye

Rodenstock is our preferred lens partner because its biometric lens technology works naturally with the way we practise: measure carefully first, then use those measurements to individualise the finished lens.

For patients who will benefit from it, Rodenstock B.I.G. EXACT™ lenses can incorporate detailed DNEye® biometric measurements into the lens calculation. This is available across lens designs including single-vision and progressive options.

We are not tied to one solution for every person. We choose the lens design, material and features according to your prescription, frame, visual demands and priorities - and we will recommend a different approach when it is the better fit for you.

Avulux® lenses

Avulux® lenses for migraine-related light sensitivity

For people living with migraine and significant light sensitivity, ordinary sunglasses or generic blue-light filters are not always the right answer. We offer Avulux® precision-tinted lenses, which are designed to selectively filter specific wavelengths of visible light associated with migraine-related light sensitivity while allowing much of the remaining visible spectrum through.

Avulux can be discussed alongside your prescription and other visual needs. It is an adjunct for light sensitivity associated with migraine — not a replacement for medical diagnosis, medication or ongoing migraine care.

We can also discuss other medical or specialised tints where a particular filter has been recommended or may be appropriate.

  • Progressive and single-vision lenses

From straightforward distance or reading prescriptions to highly individualised progressives, we choose the lens design around the distances and tasks that matter to you.

  • Prescription sunglasses

We can make prescription sunglasses for everyday wear, driving and outdoor use, with lens colour and options selected around your prescription and how you use them.

  • New lenses in your own frame

Love the frame you already have? In many cases we can fit a new prescription into an existing frame after checking that it is suitable and in good enough condition for reglazing.

  • Special and medical tints

Tint colour and transmission can be tailored for comfort, visual needs or specific clinical recommendations. We can also discuss specialist filters where appropriate.

  • Sports lenses

Sports eyewear often needs a different approach to lens material, field of view, impact considerations and frame geometry. We can recommend a solution around the activity and prescription.

  • Safety eyewear

For work environments that require protective eyewear, we can arrange prescription safety solutions suited to the task and relevant requirements.
